The relationship between the US and China

History of the US

Although the United States(US) technically started with the Declaration of Independence, the Native Americans lived there before the settlers came. But we'll start at the Declaration in 1776. Soon after that, George Washington became President. The US kept getting bigger and bigger, and Washington was replaced by many others along the way. Eventually, Abraham Lincoln got elected and tried to abolish slavery. The South did not agree. They retreated and formed the Confederate States of America in 1861. They were forced to join back in by the end of the Civil War in 1865. 48 states were added by 1912, with Alaska and Hawaii being added in 1959. But there were still dark times to come.
The Great Depression began in 1929 and lasted a decade. In 1949, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor while everyone was outside saying the Pledge of Allegiance. But, there are some good times, too. In World War II, the US helped defeat Hitler. In the Cold War, no one got hurt and the US won. But then, the terrorists struck a nerve. 9/11/2001. This was the day of the bombing of the Twin Towers. But, the US had some heroes on that day, too. Like the firemen who rushed in the buildings to save lives. Like those who helped others before themselves. And last, but not least, the men who rushed the terrorists on the plane headed to destroy Washington and won. These are the people who make the US what it is today; a good, strong, country.
